Stage 1 of 6

PLAN

You are setting up on a summit for a short outing. A friend is in the valley on 146.520 MHz simplex. Another station is beyond a ridge. Use the field reference instead of guessing.

Stage 2 of 6

SET UP

Connect the supply, the radio, the feed line, and the antenna. The order of the chain matters more than the order of the clicks.

Stage 3 of 6

CHECK

Check the live radio, the band reference, the antenna choice, and the connections before you call it ready.

Stage 4 of 6

OPERATE

A valley station is on the planned simplex frequency. Hear it, and say whether a repeater is involved.

Stage 5 of 6

TROUBLESHOOT

The outing now has two known faults: the squelch is hiding the valley signal, then the repeater tone does not match the listing.

Stage 6 of 6

CLEARANCE

This outing used the foundation labs. Finishing it marks Lab 08 complete. It does not finish the Technician course.
