Modes, Digital & Radio Activities

Receiver modes, occupied bandwidth, a digital path, and a simple satellite pass.

Lab workspace

Work through the six stages. This is Technician Core, built on Foundations. Finishing the lab does not mean the idea is mastered, and it is not Technician exam readiness.

Stage 1 of 6

LEARN

A frequency is where you listen. A mode is how the information rides on the radio signal. Voice, CW, and data can share the same idea of a tuned frequency and still be different signals. This bench is an educational model, not a waveform from a real radio.

Stage 2 of 6

SEE IT

A signal is not an infinitely thin line on a chart. Different emissions occupy different amounts of spectrum. The bars below are a comparison inside an educational model. They are not universal bandwidth numbers and they are not a band plan.

Stage 3 of 6

DO IT

Use the same ideas on a new signal, a satellite pass, and a direction-finding check. The satellite picture is a pass between two ground stations. It is not an orbit calculator.

Stage 4 of 6

EXPLAIN IT

Why isn't selecting the correct frequency always enough to understand a radio signal?

Stage 5 of 6

EXAM CONNECTION

RADIO LAB PRACTICE. These questions are about the signals you just configured. They are not official exam questions.

Stage 6 of 6

FIELD TASK

Plan a portable outing that includes voice, an APRS or data check, and a simplified satellite pass. No radio is required. Choose the setup that matches each activity.
