Antenna Systems & Feed Lines

The path from the radio to the antenna, loss, polarization, and pattern.

Lab workspace

Work through the six stages. This is Technician Core, built on Foundations. Finishing the lab does not mean the idea is mastered, and it is not Technician exam readiness.

Stage 1 of 6

LEARN

RF has to leave the radio, pass a connector and a feed line, and reach an antenna before it is a radio wave. Foundations Lab 06 matched a length and watched SWR. This lab is the path around that antenna. A bad reading here is a teaching case, not a diagnosis of every real station.

Stage 2 of 6

SEE IT

Feed-line loss in this lab is a relative educational model. Longer cable generally loses more. Loss also changes with frequency and with the kind of cable. The number is not manufacturer data.

Stage 3 of 6

DO IT

Each case is one fault in the path. Fix that fault. Do not treat the case as a complete repair manual.

Stage 4 of 6

EXPLAIN IT

Why can changing the antenna system improve a signal even when transmitter power stays exactly the same?

Stage 5 of 6

EXAM CONNECTION

RADIO LAB PRACTICE. These questions are about the path you assembled. They are not official exam questions.

Stage 6 of 6

FIELD TASK

Configure a portable VHF station for a simulated summit. Choose the feed line, orientation, placement, and the SWR check. Do not pick a product brand.
