Electrical Quantities & Circuit Math
Prefixes, decibel ratios, series and parallel resistance, and mixed voltage, current, and power decisions.

Lab workspace
Work through the six stages. This remediation lab fills a gap left by Foundations and Core. Finishing it does not finish the Technician syllabus, and it is not Technician exam readiness.

Stage 1 of 6
LEARN
Lab 05 already moved voltage, current, and resistance. This bench is the rest of the quantities: prefixes, decibels as ratios, capacitance, inductance, and impedance. A prefix changes the written number. It does not change the amount.
Stage 2 of 6
SEE IT
A decibel here is a ratio between two powers. It is not a watt by itself. Then put the same two resistors in series and in parallel.
Stage 3 of 6
DO IT
You already know voltage times current and voltage divided by resistance from Lab 05. This time the bench will not tell you which one fits. Capacitance stores energy in an electric field and is measured in farads. Inductance stores energy in a magnetic field and is measured in henries. Impedance is the opposition to current in an AC circuit, and its unit is the ohm. Frequency is still hertz: cycles each second. Direct current holds one direction. Alternating current reverses. Metals conduct because they have many free electrons. Glass is an insulator in this course.
Stage 4 of 6
EXPLAIN IT
Why is 500 milliamps the same current as 0.5 amperes even though the numbers look different?
Stage 5 of 6
EXAM CONNECTION
Radio Lab practice from the bench. Not the official pool.
Stage 6 of 6
FIELD TASK
A handheld for a picnic draws 500 milliamperes from a 12 volt pack while you transmit. Plan the current and the power before you promise the pack will run it.
