Rules as Operating Decisions
License, privilege, control, identification, and content decisions from a teaching reference, including a first week on the air.
NOT STARTED
Stage 1 of 7
LEARN
TC-01 practiced purpose, a control operator, identification, the license term, and the grace period. This lab is the rest of those decisions: who may control the station, which privileges you look up, and which transmissions are refused. The card is a teaching summary, not an FCC publication. Confirm Part 97 before you transmit.
Stage 2 of 7
SEE IT
Name the control type from where the control function happens. Local is at the radio. Remote is somewhere else, over a link. Automatic is a device operating the station under the rules.
Stage 3 of 7
DO IT
Each card is one operating decision. The FCC is the regulator. Open the reference when a number is involved. SSB phone belongs in the phone portions above 50 MHz, not only on FM. Segments such as 50.0–50.1 MHz and 144.0–144.1 MHz are CW only in this card. Six meters is 50–54 MHz. 146.52 MHz is in the 2-meter band. Technician digital operation includes 10 meters and VHF/UHF, still inside the privileges you look up.
Stage 4 of 7
EXPLAIN IT
Why is checking who is in control, and what the transmission is for, as important as finding a clear frequency?
Stage 5 of 7
EXAM CONNECTION
Radio Lab practice. These are the decisions you just made. They are not the official pool.
Stage 6 of 7
FIELD TASK
First week as a Technician. The grant is in the database. You start at the kitchen table, take the radio to a picnic net, let a friend say hello, look up 10 meters, and the next day operate the home radio from your phone.
Stage 7 of 7
ONE MORE CHECK
The CW-only slices were named earlier. Use them.
